Composite restoration

Composite restoration is the most common and most modern way to restore a tooth. The material is applied while it's soft, sculpted to the shape of the tooth and hardens in seconds under an LED curing light. No amalgam smell, no metal specks — just a strong, tooth-colored material matched to the shade of your tooth.

About the treatment

What is composite restoration?

Composite restoration rebuilds a tooth with a resin-based composite material that hardens under light. The dentist removes the affected tissue, applies the material in layers and cures each layer with a special lamp. The finished filling is hard, smooth and matched to the color of your teeth.

Composite restoration is suitable for treating cavities at any stage, repairing chips and cracks, replacing old dark fillings and as a base for an aesthetic restoration.

Procedure

How is composite restoration done?

1
Examination and X-ray

The dentist assesses how deep the decay goes and determines the scope of work.

2
Anesthesia

Always used for moderate and deep cavities. Superficial ones often don't need it.

3
Removing the decay

The affected tissue is removed with a bur down to healthy tooth structure.

4
Applying the adhesive

The surface is etched and a bonding agent is applied for a strong bond.

5
Layering the material

Each layer is cured with a lamp.

6
Contouring and polishing

The filling is adjusted to your bite and polished smooth.
