What a veneer is and when you need one
A veneer is a ceramic shell 0.3–0.7 mm thick. It is bonded to the front surface of a tooth to correct its shape and color: to cover chips, gaps between teeth and stains that whitening does not remove.
Unlike a crown, which covers the whole tooth, a veneer covers only the front surface, so less healthy tissue is removed. If a tooth is badly damaged, a crown is the more reliable option — your dentist decides this at the consultation.
