A wisdom tooth (third molar) often has no room in the dental arch: it grows in crooked, pushes against neighboring teeth or comes through only partway, forming a gum flap where infection builds up. Extraction is the only solution. At Dent Aura, we perform both simple wisdom tooth extractions and complex surgical removal of impacted teeth, with a gum incision and sectioning of the tooth.
About the treatment
A wisdom tooth (third molar) comes in during adulthood (ages 17–25), when the jaw is already fully formed and there often isn’t enough room. That’s why it often grows in crooked, pushes against neighboring teeth, erupts only partway or stays in the bone altogether (impacted). All of this leads to pain, inflammation and cavities in the teeth next to it.
Extraction is recommended for: repeated inflammation of the gum flap (pericoronitis), decay in the wisdom tooth or the neighboring tooth caused by its position, pressure on neighboring teeth, pain in the jaw and temple, and when orthodontic treatment is being planned.

How the procedure works
A periapical or panoramic X-ray shows exactly how many roots there are, the angle of the tooth and the distance to the nerve canal.
Simple (the tooth has fully erupted and the roots are straight) or surgical (impacted or partially impacted, requiring an incision and sectioning).
For lower teeth, a nerve block (numbs an entire branch of the nerve); for upper teeth, local infiltration. We wait 5–7 minutes for full numbness.
The surgeon lifts a small flap of gum tissue to access the tooth.
The tooth is loosened and removed with elevators and forceps of the right size. If needed, it is sectioned into parts.
Antiseptic, removal of granulation tissue and, if needed, a hemostatic sponge.
Dissolvable, so they don't need to be removed. Healing takes 7–10 days.

Frequently asked questions
Not with properly given anesthesia. You feel pressure and vibration, but no sharp pain. After the procedure, the anesthesia lasts another 2–4 hours, so you can get home comfortably.
2–4 days is normal. We prescribe ibuprofen 400 mg every 6–8 hours. If the pain gets worse after day 4–5, you need a check-up, as it may be dry socket.
No, not if it has erupted correctly and fully, has no decay and is easy to keep clean. But if you have chronic pericoronitis or it is pushing on neighboring teeth, it's better to remove it before complications arise.
A simple extraction takes 10–20 minutes. A surgical one (impacted tooth, sectioning) takes 30–60 minutes.
