A dental implant is one of the most reliable ways to replace a missing tooth. The implant replaces the root, and a crown on top replaces the visible part. The new tooth looks and feels like your own, lets you chew normally and doesn’t require grinding down the neighbouring teeth.
What is a dental implant
An implant is a titanium screw placed in the jawbone. Over a few months the bone fuses with its surface (this is called osseointegration), and the implant becomes a solid support for a crown. Implants can replace one tooth, several in a row or even a full arch — on 4–6 implants.
Benefits of implants
- Durability. With proper care, an implant lasts for decades.
- Natural look. A crown on an implant is indistinguishable from the neighbouring teeth.
- Comfort. No need to take it out at night like a removable denture, and no “foreign” feeling in the mouth.
- Healthy teeth stay intact. Unlike a bridge, the neighbouring teeth are not ground down.
- Bone is preserved. Chewing load through the implant keeps the bone where the tooth was lost from shrinking.
How the treatment works
- Consultation and diagnostics. The dentist examines you, orders a CT scan, assesses the bone and prepares a treatment plan with prices.
- Implant placement. Under local anaesthesia, usually 30–60 minutes per implant. The procedure itself is painless; you may feel moderate discomfort for a few days afterwards.
- Healing. 3 to 6 months, depending on the jaw and bone quality. If the tooth is in your smile line, a temporary crown can be fitted for this period.
- Healing abutment and crown. The gum is shaped around the implant, an impression is taken and the permanent crown — porcelain-fused-to-metal or zirconia — is fixed.
Who shouldn’t have implants
There are few contraindications, and most are temporary. They include uncontrolled diabetes, cancer during active treatment, antiresorptive medication and some bone diseases. Smoking and gum inflammation increase the risk, so they are taken into account in the treatment plan. The dentist assesses all of this at the consultation.
Which implants we use at Dent Aura
We work with proven brands: Osstem (Korea), Straumann (Switzerland), NeoBiotech and MegaGen. The brand is chosen for your clinical situation and budget — the dentist will explain the difference at the consultation.
What makes up the price
The full cost of replacing a tooth has several parts: the implant itself (at Dent Aura, Osstem from UAH 15,000, Straumann from UAH 25,000), the healing abutment and the crown on the implant. Sometimes preparation is needed, such as bone grafting. You’ll get the exact amount in your treatment plan after the CT scan, before treatment starts.
Questions and answers
Does getting an implant hurt?
Not under anaesthesia. For 3–5 days afterwards you may feel moderate discomfort, which regular painkillers relieve.
How long does it take from surgery to crown?
Usually 3 to 8 months, depending on the jaw, bone quality and implant brand.
Can an implant fail to integrate?
When the protocol is followed, this happens in 1–3% of cases. The implant is then placed again.
Can an implant be placed right after an extraction?
Sometimes, yes — this is immediate implant placement. The dentist decides whether it suits you after an examination and CT scan.
